Get to Know Your Nurse!
Highlights of my nursing career prior to working at Fairview are: Children's Memorial Hospital intensive care unit, pediatrics at Evanston Hospital, adult medicine at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s, oncology, orthopedics, and adolescent mental health at Lutheran General Hospital, and nursing at Parkside Home Care and Hospice of the North Shore. These positions have provided a broad and solid base of nursing expertise, as well as, taught me about the uniqueness of the human body, it's amazing ability to heal, and most importantly, the power of the human spirit.
In the last twenty-seven years at Fairview, five years as a second grade teacher, and twenty-two years as a certified school nurse , I have had the opportunity to directly serve children impacting their health, development, and educational experience. The nurse is part of the educational team that equips a child to take full advantage of the Fairview experience. Students with significant medical needs are mainstreamed into public schools, thus requiring a knowledgeable health professional. Each contact I have with students and adults offers the opportunity to educate them informally. These interactions enable me to impact a student's health, education and development as a person. I am privileged to be part of the process of growing individuals.
I completed a Masters in Culture with a focus on Justice and Social Issues and recently completed a nine month certificate program in Trauma in Children and Adults from the Trauma Center in Boston, JRI.
On a personal note, I enjoy being with my family, friends, kayaking, biking, hiking, gardening, reading, and service opportunities.
